When planning any gathering, the menu is one of the most important components to consider. Not every event is the same, varying in numbers of guests, time of day and purpose of the occasion. With this in mind, we strive to create varying menus specifically designed to meet the needs of each of our guests on a group by group basis. As you decide upon a menu for a large group of people, here are some styles you might consider:

Limited Menu – Because of the wide variety of items on our regular menu, the options for your function are endless. For all groups of 20 or more, we do require a set menu with a limit of three or four entrée choices. Guests receive a shorter, more focused menu that may be designed by a manager independently or with assistance from the host of the event. This option not only allows you to limit the choice of menu items, but also allows you to decide how many courses the meal would include for your guests. Vegetarian dishes are always available upon request. Pricing will vary according to the content of your menu. Sample menus are also available.

Buffet/Banquet Style Dining – This option is very popular for larger groups that desire a less restrictive atmosphere whereby guests can circulate throughout the dining area. The menu can range from a four course meal to a variety of our delicious appetizers. This option works extremely well when working with a budget based on cost per person. Ask one of our Big Shotz Tavern managers to break down pricing according to your specific needs.

Full Service Dining - If it is a more formal or traditional toned occasion that you are hoping for, our team can make off-the-menu dining as wonderful an experience for 20 people as it would be for 2. This is an especially prudent choice when your guests have not dined with us before and would like to sample the variety that our menu has to offer.

Open Bar - Guests can order from our extensive list of beer, wine and liquors. All drinks would be on the same tab as the food.

Cash Bar - Guests would be offered tea, soft drinks and coffee, but all alcoholic beverages would be put on a separate check that they would pay for themselves.

Drink Limit - Guests would be offered up to two (2) drinks from the bar. After two drinks, they would be responsible for payment. Another method would be to select a monetary limit that you are willing to spend for the group, after which time the guest would be given an individual tab that he/she would be responsible for.

Beer and Wine only - You could pre-select some basic red and white wines, along with a few bottled beers to be available to your guests. If they choose any other drinks, they would be responsible for payment.

Big Shotz Tavern offers two choices for private dining.

Our Private Dining Room (PDR) can accommodate groups of many sizes, with varying table setups. With a capacity of up to 70 guests, and a large 10-foot screen with projector, this room provides great resolution and good visibility for all guests. State-of-the-art audio/visual capabilities are suitable for computer interface, power point presentations or CD/DVD input. Additionally, wireless internet is available as well as a cordless microphone for speaking engagements.

This room is perfect for all occasions such as Rehearsal Dinners, Receptions, Pharmaceutical Dinners, Birthday Parties, Graduation Parties, Sports Team Dinners, Holiday Parties, Family or Office gatherings.

Another option is our Four Seasons Room (Five Points location only). This glass enclosed private dining area can provide a more intimate dining experience for approximately 30 guests. When reserving this room during the warmer months, guests often request that the folding doors of this room be opened to expose our patio, the courtyard beyond and the feeling of being outdoors. This room, which includes a 54-inch flat screen television and audio capabilities, is available as a non-smoking or smoking private dining area.

We require a minimum of 30 people to reserve the PDR room exclusively at lunch, and a minimum of 40 people to reserve this room exclusively at dinner. For the Four Seasons Room, at least 15 people are required to have this room exclusively at all times. If you would like to reserve either room exclusively without the minimum number of guests, the room can still be made private for a fee. This fee generally is the difference between your total food and beverage bill and the minimum amount designated for the room.

These minimum amounts have been established to cover food costs and the service staff that we have assembled to properly serve a larger group. The fee also applies to guests who attend but choose not to eat for whatever reason and for when the number of those in attendance falls substantially short of the confirmed number of guests. As with all parties of 8 people or more, a minimum 18% gratuity will be assigned to your bill.

Another option —depending on the availability of the room in question— would be to book a party to take place in the PDR or Four Seasons Room non-exclusively. This means that you could reserve seating in either dining area without guaranteed private dining. Many of the aforementioned menu options would still be available to you. The choice is yours. Just remember, we are always willing to work with our guests to create the perfect event.
